Short notice journey cancellations

Due to the current national driver shortage which is affecting all sectors, and higher-than-usual levels of sickness absence, some journeys are not expected to operate.

Closure at Lindsay Street, Hetton le Hole

Today 08:00 - 31st Oct

Buses on Sunderland District Cherries service 35A will be unable to serve bus stops at Church Road, Low Downs Road or Lindsay Street in Hetton le Hole between 08:00 & 18:00 on Sunday 24th, Wednesday 27th, Thursday 28th & Sunday 31st October while Sunderland City Council carry out essential maintenance at Lindsay Street.  Please catch your bus at Regent Street or Houghton Road.

Closure at A1231, Washington

Today 06:00 - 13:00

Buses on Country Ranger service 8 will be unable to serve the bus stop on the A1231 sliproad near Barmston Nature Reserve or on Ferryboat Lane business park on Sunday 24th October between 06:00 & 13:00 while Sunderland City Council carry out works on the grass verges.  Please catch your bus from Pattinson Road or Ringway.

Closure at Barcus Close Lane, Crookgate

27th Sep - 12th Dec

Buses on X lines service X72 will be unable to serve bus stops at Sleepy Valley, Tanfield Village or Barcus Close Lane for approximately 11 weeks while drainage works are carried out.  Please catch your bus at Tantobie crossroads or Hobson, near Barcus Close Lane.  For customers travelling from Sleepy Valley & Tanfield Village, Durham County Council are providing an on demand taxi service, operated by Stanley Taxis.

School bus 823 will start from Tanfield Village on the opposite side of the road to normal, 2 minutes earlier at 07:52.  It will then operate via Sleepy Valley, Pickering Nook, Hobson, Crookgate Bank Top (for customers from Barcus Close Lane) before resuming normal route at Crookgate Pack Horse.  The afternoon journey will operate the same route in the opposite direction.

Closure at Alston Townhead

21st Sep - 30th Nov

Alston Townhead is closed for long term works from Monday 20th September. Services 681 & X81 are unable to serve stops at Townhead and will instead operate to and from Henderson's Garage.

Diversion - Trimdon Station, Trimdon Colliery, Trimdon, Fishburn & Sedgefield

14th Sep - 31st Oct

Due to recent ASB in the areas of Trimdon Station, Trimdon Colliery, Trimdon, Fishburn & Sedgefield, Service 239 will divert and omit these areas. 

Service 239 will not serve stops between Station town and Sedgefield in both directions and will terminate at Station Town. 

Customers can board the service at Station Town towards Peterlee.

Closure of Durham Bus Station from 15 February

15th Feb - 30th Sep

From Monday 15 February, Durham Bus Station will be closed to allow demolition and redevelopment work to begin, which is expected to last until Autumn 2022.

Whilst the bus station is closed, a range of new bus stops will be introduced on North Road and at Millburngate.

Eastbound closure at Rosehill Bank, Howdon

25th Oct - 10th Jan

Buses on services 1, 11 & 41 will be diverted from first bus on Monday 25th October while Northern Gas Networks carry out urgent gas main works.  

Coaster 1 towards Whitley Bay will operate via St Peter's Road & Archer Street serving all stops.  

Little Coaster 11 towards Whitley Bay will operate via St Peter's Road, Archer Street & Churchill Street, serving all stops.

Little Coaster 41 towards Hadrian Park will operate via St Peter's Road, Archer Street & Churchill Street, serving all stops.

Buses operating westbound will operate normal route.
