Service changes in South Tyneside - from 26 January 2025

We’re making some changes to our services in South Tyneside to improve your bus services, making them more reliable and convenient. These changes are based on a review of travel habits and service reliability. Changes will come into effect on Sunday 26 January 2025, at the same time as changes in the Sunderland area and minor revisions in Gateshead. 

What’s New? 

  • New links across South Tyneside to make getting around easier. 
  • More reliable services with updated timetables. 

     

All areas currently served will continue to benefit from Go North East bus services.

Service 9: North Shields – Jarrow – Sunderland: View Timetable

Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. Customers boarding on York Avenue will benefit from buses up to every 15 minutes with services 9, 25 and 35. 

 

Service 24 South Shields – Sunderland: View Timetable 

Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. 

 

Service 25/A South Shields – Boldon - Jarrow (previously service 5): View Timetable 

This timetable has been revised to operate hourly. Customers travelling between Jarrow and Asda Boldon will benefit from buses up to every 30 minutes with services 25 and 35.  

Customers boarding on York Avenue will benefit from buses up to every 15 minutes with services 9, 25 and 35. 

Customers who currently travel on service 25 Newcastle – Chester-le-Street should note that this service will be renumbered service 22, with minor timetable changes. 

 

Service 26 South Shields – Jarrow – Lukes Lane: View Timetable 

The service will be revised to operate hourly. Customers travelling between Lukes Lane and Jarrow will benefit from buses up to every 30 minutes with services 26 and 36. 

 

Services 35 and 36 Sunderland – Boldon – Jarrow – Lukes Lane: View Timetable 

Service 35 will be revised to operate hourly from Sunderland to Hylton Castle, Boldon, Fellgate and Jarrow. The timetable will improve reliability.  

This service will provide new links between Fellgate and Sunderland on Monday-Saturday. Customers boarding on York Avenue will benefit from buses up to every 15 minutes with services 9, 25 and 35. The section of route between Sunderland and Low Moorsley will be covered by service 32.  

Service 36 will operate hourly between Sunderland to Hylton Castle, Boldon, Jarrow and Lukes Lane. This service will provide new links from Cotswolds Estate towards Jarrow. 

Both services will offer a combined frequency of every 30 minutes between Sunderland and Boldon Asda.
