Meet our Engineering Apprentices!
This National Apprenticeship Week, 9 - 15 February 2026, we're celebrating our incredible engineering apprentices.
Our latest cohort of apprentices have shared their experience so far...

Charlie Phillips
Charlie has found his apprenticeship "brilliant from the very start." He has been interested in mechanics from a young age, and is enjoying working in an area that he loves.
He likes how every day is so different, being able to work in his depot, as well as travelling to Wigan for his theory training.
He also loves playing a part in keeping the world moving, and enjoys working alongside his "canny" team.

Jay Bolden
Jay knew he wanted be an engineer from a young age, and was also inspired by his dad, who also works as an engineer at one of our depots.
His favourite thing about his apprenticeship, is the mix of both practical hands on work in his depot, alongside his theory work that he completes at Wigan Training Academy.
Jay said "I have enjoyed my apprenticeship so far as I am always learning new and interesting parts of the job and how to complete my work to a good and high quality standard."
Dali Blythe
Dali applied for an apprenticeship with us as she wanted to gain both practical and theoretical experience in engineering. As a child, she always knew she wanted to get into engineering, so she was excited to apply for the role.
Dali finds working in the bus industry rewarding, through making improvements to buses for her local community. She said: "The apprenticeship so far has been great, there are lots of opportunities to learn and plenty of support when needed."

Harvey Brettell
Harvey began his career at Go North East as a bus driver, and wanted to find out more about becoming an engineer. After enquiring about the opportunity he found that the qualifications offered and the diversity of skills gained were second to none in the industry, which led him to change his career path.
He finds a sense of pride in working in the public transport industry, knowing that his work is essential in keeping the North East moving.
Harvey said: "So far I’ve learned a lot in my apprenticeship, I’ve met some great people, learned great skills and qualifications, and I'm excited to carry on into the future"
