Riley's Fish Shack, Tynemouth
Nestled in the beautiful King Edward's Bay, Riley's Fish Shack is one of the North East's most unique places to eat. You can sit inside the shack or outdoor on deck chairs, around fire pits with wool blankets provided on cold days. Riley's menu changes daily based on locally caught fish and regularly features items like grilled fish wraps, monkfish, squid, mackerel and hand-dived scallops cooked on their open-fire. If you want to Go Big with seafood, this is the place to be.

Grant's Bakery, Corbridge
If you're exploring the picturesque Corbridge Village, you won't want to miss the award winning Grant's Bakery! This nationally celebrated craft bakery business offers artisan bakes, lavish patisserie and a beautiful area in Corbridge Marketplace to enjoy them. Our favourite was the luxury chocolate caramel tart and twice baked biscoff croissant!

Propa! Sunderland
If you want to Go Propa Big, head to Si King's Propa, tucked away at Sunderland's Sheepfold stables. If you're after a pre-match bite or heading to their monthly Sunday Market, we can't think of a better place for pie lovers. Handmade in Sunderland, using only the region’s best ingredients, everything is sourced where possible within a 50-mile radius, as the team at Propa are very keen to support local producers and growers. As well as their delicious pies, they regularly serve mince and dumplings (with a slice of stottie!) alongside traditional, warming desserts.
Riverview Kitchen, Durham
Riverview Kitchen is a popular, dog-friendly independent brunch and lunch cafe in Durham, right next to the River Wear and Framwelgate Bridge. It is known for its scenic riverside terrace and large windows overlooking the water. You have to try their stacked pancakes, smashed avocado on sourdough or their traditional breakfast. This one is good for those with dietary needs, offering a large variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

El Coto, Newcastle
If you're after traditional spanish tapas and cosy atmosphere, El Coto is the place to visit. Set in a distinctive, historic building, a short walk from St James' Park you can expect hot and cold tapas, paellas, cured meats and traditional spanish stews. As well as the food options, they also offer traditional spanish beers, wines, spirits and (most importantly?) sangria!
The Grainger Market, Newcastle
If you're someone who wants to try a big of everything, and you haven't visited the Grainger Market yet, where have you been? Recently renovated, the market is one of Newcastle foodie hot spots, offering traditional breakfasts, cuban sandwiches, chinese dumplings, indian street food, freshly baked bagels and everything in between if you're going to pick one place, we say this one, you can even book a food tour if you want to taste and learn!
