Share your views on planned service changes in Gateshead & County Durham

We’re planning timetable changes for a number of services across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, and County Durham, due to come into effect on Sunday 20 July 2025.

We’re encouraging our customers to take a look at the proposed changes and share their feedback. Your views will help us shape these plans, making sure they best meet the needs of the communities we serve.

Drawing on customer feedback and detailed analysis of current performance, the proposed timetables are designed to deliver more reliable services across the network.

Proposed service changes

• Service 1: Whitley Bay - Newcastle - MetroCentre: This service will be re-numbered 301 to improve consistency with other services in North Tyneside.

   This service will no longer serve MetroCentre ASDA on Monday-Saturday, it will instead operate via the Metro Oasis to MetroCentre Interchange. A limited number of journeys will continue to serve ASDA on Sundays.

  The early morning journey from Sunniside will now operate as 301A. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service 6: Newcastle - Stanley / Lanchester: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. The weekday 16:49 journey from Lanchester, currently terminating at the MetroCentre, will now depart at 16:55 and run all the way to Newcastle. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services 16, 16A, 16B: Durham - Consett: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service 27: Newcastle - Jarrow - South Shields: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service 47: Newcastle - Rowlands Gill - Consett: Timetable changes to improve service reliability. On Monday to Saturday daytimes, services 47 and X45 will together provide a bus up to every 15 minutes between Rowlands Gill and Newcastle. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services 49 / 49A: Gateshead - Blaydon - Winlaton: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services 51 / 52: Gateshead - Leam Lane Circular: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. Early morning journeys which previously started at Leam Lane Wealcroft will now begin at Wrekenton. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service 67: Wardley - MetroCentre: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service 69: Wardley - Winlaton: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service 78: Sunderland - Chester-le-Street - Consett: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services 93 / 94: Gateshead - Team Valley Circular: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services 95 / 96: Gateshead - Lobley Hill - MetroCentre: Timetable changes to improve service reliability, with a change to the route in Lobley Hill. One bus per hour will operate as service 95, serving Lobley Hill Cragside Gardens instead of Malvern Gardens, replacing service X32. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service N21: Newcastle - Durham: Timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service V5: Crookhall - Consett - The Dene: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services X5 / X15: Durham - Consett - Castleside: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service X21: Newcastle - Durham - Bishop Auckland / West Auckland: We’re proposing to withdraw the section of route between Tindale Crescent Retail Park and West Auckland. Alternative services operated by Arriva will remain available in West Auckland. 

  Service X21 will now also serve Picktree Lane in Chester-le-Street. Timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services X30 / X31: Newcastle - Stanley: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service X32: Newcastle - Stanley: This service will no longer serve Lobley Hill Cragside Gardens estate. It will instead run directly along Lobley Hill Road, reducing journey times between Sunniside and Gateshead by up to five minutes. Lobley Hill Cragside Gardens will be covered by the revised service 95. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service X45: Newcastle - Rowlands Gill - Consett: Timetable changes to improve service reliability. On Monday to Saturday daytimes, services X45 and 47 will provide a combined frequency of every 15 minutes between Rowlands Gill and Newcastle. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Service X70: Newcastle - Consett: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here. 

   

• Services X71 / X71A: Newcastle - Consett: Minor timetable changes to improve service reliability. You can view the proposed timetable here.
