Your guide to our service changes from Sunday 19 July 2026

We’re introducing timetable changes for a number of services across Sunderland, Washington, Newcastle, Gateshead and Northumberland, which will come into effect on Sunday 19 July 2026.
Thank you to everyone who took part in our consultation on the proposed changes; your feedback has been valuable in shaping our final timetables.
What's new?
- Improved connections and timetables for our customers working at Follingsby Amazon, Nissan and IAMP.
- Minor timetables across the area to improve reliability for our passengers.
- 691 - a new service linking Hexham to Alston.
Summary of the timetable changes
Service 4
There will be some changes to early morning/ late evening journeys to provide improved connections at Follingsby Amazon and reflect evolving customer demand. Because of this, the following journeys will no longer operate:
Monday to Friday:
06:00 Follingsby to Washington Galleries
23:34 Washington Galleries to Heworth
23:58 Heworth to Concord
Saturday:
05:40 Follingsby to Heworth
05:54 Heworth to Washington Galleries
23:34 Washington Galleries to Heworth
23:58 Heworth to Concord
Sunday:
05:25 Follingsby to Heworth
05:26 Washington Galleries to Heworth
05:57 Heworth to Washington Galleries
06:28 Washington Galleries to Heworth

Service X31
The Saturday 17:55 service X31 from Newcastle to Consett will depart at 18:00 and operate 5 mins later throughout.

Service 50
Minor change to the 01:02 journey from Concord to South Shields, which will now terminate at Fowler Street/Town Hall.
Service 53/54
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Trips which currently start/end at Saltwell Rd will now start/end at Bensham Bank.
The stop at Newcastle Grey Street Theatre Royal will be replaced by Newcastle Market Street West (T) on Service 53.
Service 56
There will be some changes to late evening journeys to provide improved connections with late evening Nissan/IAMP shift changes. These journeys will operate to different times Monday-Thursday and Friday to accommodate shift end times.
Service 57
The 20:10 and 20:40 Wardley departures will be replaced by equivalent 58A journeys.
Saturday journeys at 20:11 and 20:41 from Wardley to Heworth are replaced by service 58A journeys at 20:12 and 20:42 which will continue to Newcastle.
Service 58 58A X58
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
There will be some changes to morning and evening journeys to Follingsby as a reflection of evolving customer demand and to provide improved connections at Amazon. The evening X58 to Newcastle will now depart at 18:45 to better reflect shift times.
Service X70
The Saturday 17:50 service X70 from Newcastle to Consett will depart at 17:55 and operate 5 mins later throughout.
Service 74
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Service X85
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Service 96
The following journeys will now be operated by Northstar following Nexus contract changes.
Monday to Friday:
06:29 and 06:59 Wellington Road to Gateshead
All journeys after 19:10
Saturday:
07:58 and 08:36 Gateshead to Metrocentre
08:03 and 08:29 Metrocentre to Gateshead
All journeys after 19:40 from Gateshead to Metrocentre
All journeys after 21:10 from Metrocentre to Gateshead
Sunday:
09:17 Metrocentre to Gateshead
09:46 Gateshead to Metrocentre
All journeys after 19:10
Nexus day tickets issued on Northstar journeys will be accepted on Go North East service 96 journeys. Customers can use Go North East day tickets on journeys operated by Northstar.

This service will be operated by L&G Coaches following Nexus contract changes.
AD122
This service will be displayed as “122” on the Go North East app and in online journey planners.
Q3/Q3X
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Saturday evening timetables will now be the same as those on all other days of week.
Journeys which currently end at Pilgrim Street will now terminate at Market Street West.
The Theatre Royal stop and Market Street East stop will be removed and replaced with a stop on Market Street West.
Due to low passenger numbers Monday to Friday 06:22 Quayside Guildhall to Brunton Lane journey will now commence from Newcastle Haymarket at 06:28.
The Monday to Friday 15:47 journey from John Dobson Street to St Peters Basin will now start at Market Street West at 15:50.
643
Due to Nexus contract changes, this service will now be operated by Northstar.
644
This service will be withdrawn due to very low passenger demand. Services 643 and 301 will still provide links in this area.
Service 680
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Service 681
The service is revised with more journeys to and from Alston, with a revised timetables agreed with Northumberland County Council.
This service will no longer serve Birdoswald Roman Fort due to overlap with another operator already serving this section of route. From Haltwhistle this service will operate direct to Walltown Army Museum.
Service 682
This service will extend beyond West Woodburn to Otterburn as agreed with Northumberland County Council.
In Acomb the service will no longer operate into the village (Acomb The Pant) and will instead remain on main A6079 road serving stops there.
Service 683
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Service 684
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Service 688
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Service 689
There will be minor changes to improve reliability.
Service 691
This is a new service linking Hexham to Alston once per day Monday-Saturday.

Our new routes and timetables will begin on Sunday 19 July 2026. There are a few different ways to check if your usual journey will be affected and to plan your journey:

- Download the Go North East app to check fares, buy tickets and plan your journey.
