Halloween activities get there with go north east

Spooky season is upon us, whether you're looking for family activities or wanting something truly spooky, the North East has plenty. Here's just some of the exciting events happening in the region this Halloween.

Halloween Wreath making, Souter Lighthouse

This relaxed, creative workshop starts with binding moss and autumn foliage onto a crescent-shaped frame to make a textured base. Add seasonal touches like pine cones, miniature pumpkins, and a statement bow to finish your wreath.

The host will guide you through every step, so you can relax and enjoy connecting with nature, whether you’re new to flower arranging or have some experience. Tea, coffee, and homemade bakes will be provided to keep the creativity flowing.

Spooky Night at the Museum, Discovery Museum

Calling all monsters, witches, ghosts and ghouls, big and small...

Dress in your best Halloween costume and join the Discovery tam for a frightfully fun evening packed with family-friendly thrills. You'll have two hours to dance beneath the iconic Turbinia, explore a haunted museum after dark, and enjoy a host of spooky activities for all ages.
Whether you're brave enough to enter the haunted spaces or simply want to enjoy some Halloween fun with family and friends, there's something for everyone.

4:30pm to 6:30pm  -  Suitable for families with children aged 4+.
7:30pm to 9:30pm  -  Recommended for families with children aged 9+.

Un-living Museum of the North, Beamish Museum

Step back in time and get ready for a night you’ll never forget at the Un-living Museum of the North.

Keep a watchful eye as you visit Pockerley Old Hall, the oldest original building on site, with many a curious tale or two in its history… By day their 1900s Pit Village is known for its community spirit, but by night you may find other spirits have come out to play.

Their cobbled Edwardian street is home to more than just townspeople at Halloween, meet the newest inhabitants and enjoy some spook-tacular entertainment across the museum. Don’t forget to visit the Fairground for a spin on the rides (additional charge applies)!

Watch your step as you enter the frightening 50s Town, the folk there might not be as friendly as they seem…

Ghost Hunting at the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum

Join Kindred Spirit Investigations for a guided ghost hunting event at the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum, one of the most active and intense paranormal investigation locations in the region. Kynren Pyromusical

The North East’s biggest Pyromusical returns in 2026, lighting up the night sky above Bishop Auckland with 25 minutes of spectacular fireworks choreographed to an epic soundtrack.

As this year’s event falls on Halloween, expect a few subtle seasonal touches to add to the atmosphere as darkness falls. With glowing fire pits, warming food and drink and a few surprises along the way, it promises to be a memorable autumn evening for the whole family.

Broomsticks and magic tricks family trail at Washington Old Hall

Let the Halloween spirit lead you on a self-guided family trail through the historic hall, where curious minds can discover mysterious markings once believed to ward off witches and spirits. Then venture outdoors for witchy fun in the gardens, like broomstick racing and learning about spells.

The trail is free with regular admission. Use your trail sheet to explore both inside and outside the hall for a magical experience.
