Go-Ahead Women

We’re lucky to count some brilliant, talented and hardworking women as our colleagues at Go North East. But we want to see more women applying for roles behind the wheel and in our engineering workshops.

We’re part of the Go-Ahead Women initiative, Go- Ahead’s mission to achieve 50% gender equality by 2035, marking a significant step in the traditionally male-dominated transport sector.

Our Inner Qualities campaign

On 8 September 2025, we’re officially launch Inner Qualities – our bold new campaign aiming to break down female stereotypes and showcase opportunities for women in the North East.

Women are often told they’re too quiet, too shy, too loud, or too bossy. Our campaign stands up to these labels and reminds people that empathy, passion, determination, resilience, these inner qualities, are what make women so powerful in the workplace.

The stars of the campaign are our colleagues here at Go North East.

To celebrate the launch of Inner Qualities, we were honoured to be joined by our North East Mayor, Kim McGuiness, whose vision is “for a North East where ambition is met with support, and no one is held back by outdated expectations.”

At the launch Newcastle United footballer and former lioness Demi Stokes, shared her inspiring story of overcoming challenges, and breaking barriers in a traditionally male dominated role. Demi said: “I know what it feels like to be told you can't - and how powerful it is to prove that you can' perfectly capturing how her journey embodies the core values of Inner Qualities.”
