How long have you been a bus driver?
What did you do before you became a driver?
I worked in process control in a factory that made televisions.
Why did you apply to be a driver?
I was made redundant when I was 55 and I had always wanted to be a bus driver. But when I applied I thought because of my age I wouldn’t stand a chance of getting the job.
What’s the best thing about being a bus driver?
The lovely people you meet, job satisfaction and job security. There are lots of good opportunities within the company – I’ve been all over and had some great times as a driver.
What’s the worst thing about being a bus driver?
The traffic on a morning can be a pain. How does driving a bus compare to your last job? I absolutely love driving buses. I’m 68 and still working full-time because I really enjoy it. I’ve got no plans to retire anytime soon.
Would you recommend being a bus driver?
Yes, I definitely would. You get a good wage, a secure job, a company pension, a uniform and the job can be a lot of fun!
