New, simplified fares and tickets

3 months ago Thu 27th Jan 2022

Fares from 13 February

From Sunday 13 February, we will be making some changes to our existing fares and tickets, with the new, simplified range helping to make travelling with us easier than ever before.

  • The ‘money saving fares’ introduced last summer will be kept permanently with some pricing changes to adult single, adult return and on bus daily and weekly prices.
  • Most tickets bought on the Go North East app will have prices frozen with new exclusive monthly options available.
  • We’ll now have a much smaller range of simpler, easier to understand zones based largely on recognised county and borough boundaries.

If you’ve already got an active ticket or got some left over in your app wallet, there’s no need to worry. They will continue to work as normal until their expiry date, then you can make your choice from our new simplified range.

A summary of our new ticket range can be found below, or if you prefer a PDF you can check out our new fares leaflet.

New tickets and zones

Our larger zones will now align with the areas of Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Northumberland, replacing the current Purple, Green, Red and Yellow Go Zones. You’ll now be able to travel across your chosen area without worrying about complicated zone boundaries and an all zones ticket will be available for those travelling across the region.

For most people this will simply be a change in ticket name – check out our buying guide to check which ticket you’ll need to buy.

If you're aged between 5 and 25, you can also save with our existing range of 5 to 25 tickets.

Subscriptions will be available from 13 February for our 28 day ticket options, and once they’re live all you need to do to set one up is follow these steps.

Setting up a ticket subscription (available from 13 February):

  • Visit the buy tickets page on our website
  • See which ticket option you need and select ‘buy now’
  • Select the ‘start subscription’ option
  • Log in to your account on our website – these will be the same details as you use on the app if you already have an account, or you can simply create an account if you don’t already have one
  • Choose the recurring ticket option and then checkout

You’ll then be set up! Your payment will be taken every 28 days and you’ll receive a new ticket each time automatically.

You’ll be able to cancel the subscription at any time. Simply log back onto the website and click on your name in the top right-hand corner of the screen, then you can see and manage any subscriptions that you have.

Any current ticket you have will still be available to use, but no more payments will be taken and you won't get any more tickets. You can sign up again at any time.

Evening tickets

Our successful £1 evening fare will become a maximum of £2 for any journey between 7pm and 3am to help us continue to grow the evening market at a more sustainable yet attractive price.

Where single fares are below £2, the usual daytime single will apply.
