Health, Safety & Environment Manager

The Role

A vacancy has arisen for a proactive Health, Safety & Environment Manager to join our Safety Team based from our Riverside Depot in Gateshead.

Reporting into our Business Director the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining health, safety and environment programs to ensure safe working across all our sites.

You will work closely across all functions to promote a culture of safety and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead on all aspects of safety and environment to ensure compliance with legislation and company policy.

• Develop and implement comprehensive HSE policies and procedures.

• Lead on the development, monitoring and implementation of the company’s management systems (including BSI).

• Support and advise local managers on Safety & Accident investigations where required including preparing documentation for relevant authorities.

• Report and present to the SLT and on KPIs and use trends to identify areas for improvement.

• Promote and facilitate a positive health, safety and environmental culture across the business and work with other departments and the SLT to ensure that business decisions and considered against impacts from a HSE perspective.

• Coordinate safety training programs and workshops for employees at all levels.

• Ensure the business stays up to date with trends and advancements in health, safety and environmental management.

Person Specification

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.

• Professional Health & Safety certifications, minimum NEBOSH.

• In depth knowledge of HSE regulations and standards.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and motivate at all levels.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
